In 1987, a group of area dog fanciers saw the need for more responsible pet ownership and education in the Lake Cumberland Area.  There was an interest in conformation showing, obedience training, and other dog-related community activities.  The nonprofit Lake Cumberland Kennel Club (LCKC) was formed to meet these needs.

LCKC abides by the guidelines of the AKC - American Kennel Club.  While we are concerned about the welfare of all dogs, our mission is to protect and advance the interests of purebred dogs.  Our goal is to conduct sanctioned matches, dog shows, obedience trials, training classes, and Canine Good Citizen tests under the rules and regulations of the AKC, and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at such  events.  We have conformation dog show "field trips" and teach members how to compete in various AKC events.

We also enjoy our dogs through such activities as visiting nursing homes and schools, marching in parades, and holding community-wide events relating to dogs.  We try to help educate the public on the various breeds of dogs so that they can become responsible owners of breeds which suit their lifestyles.

We hope to improve the general status and value of these wonderful creatures within our state and country by consolidating our efforts with those of other local dog organizations.
